Sewing to Stop the Spread is a rapid response initiative to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus currently sweeping the world. We are a group of volunteers sewing facemasks to distribute to our essential workers who are on the frontlines of this pandemic. We are actively recruiting volunteers who have a sewing machine and some time that they can contribute to making facemasks in the Orange County, NY area. The pattern we use is very simple and is a great pattern for beginner level sewers. To download the pattern we are using courtesy of Craft Passion please click here. We will supply all fabric and sewing materials needed. If you have a sewing machine, and basic knowledge of how to use it, we could use your help. To sign up as a volunteer, please click here:

These are NOT N95 rated masks and are NOT guaranteed to block all virus particles of COVID-19. However, according to researchers at Cambridge University, the best material for a makeshift facemask taking into account the material's ability to block the virus and the breathability of the material, is a standard cotton or cotton blend mask. According to the research, these masks can block 50%-62% of virus particles. 50%-62% is a lot better than 0%. While we believe N95 masks should be worn by our frontline healthcare workers, there is a critical shortage of these masks right now and the Center for Disease Control recommends using a standard cotton mask as a last resort when other masks are not available. We at IMPACT!, Inc. believe all of our essential workers should have access to masks right now, and we are working to produce as many as we can as fast as we can.
Every day that goes by without enough masks to go around is a day that more people will contract the virus, some of which may ultimately die. We at IMPACT!, Inc. are mobilizing quickly to respond to this need in our area and are pouring all of our efforts into this initiative. We will be distributing the masks throughout Orange County, NY free of charge and are solely dependent on donations for purchasing materials to make the masks. If you would like to support this initiative, donations can be sent via PayPal. We are also accepting donations of sewing machines in good working order to put into the hands of people who have the ability to help with this initiative. If you have a sewing machine to donate, please contact us and we will arrange pick-up in the Orange County, NY area. IMPACT!, Inc. is a 501c3 charity organization and all donations are tax deductible.
