You Bring It, We'll Help You Fix It!REPAIRING BROKEN ITEMS, REDUCING CONSUMERISM, AND CULTIVATING COMMUNITY IN NEWBURGH, NY |
Quite simply, a repair café is a gathering of volunteers with various repair skills that come together under the direction and organization of a repair café host organization to teach people repair skills and promote the “repair revolution”. The first repair café in the Hudson Valley area took place in New Paltz in 2013 and was organized by John Wackman. John started Repair Café Hudson Valley and helped many people start repair cafes in the area, including ours here in Newburgh. The Newburgh Repair Café is organized by Damian DePauw of IMPACT!, Inc., Orange County Legislator, Kevindaryán Luján, and Grit Works’ Eric Jarman and Dave Deleo. The first Newburgh Repair Café was held in March of 2019 at Grit Works at 115 Broadway, Newburgh, NY and was a great success. Since then, we have helped to fix many items, including bicycles, computers, clothing & textiles, furniture, cell phones, lamps & other home décor, vacuums & other appliances, game systems, TVs, tool sharpening, jewelry…you name it! While we don’t guarantee that we can fix anything, we guarantee to try or direct you to someone that can! The Newburgh Repair Café is free to all. Donations are suggested. We welcome Repair Coaches and Event Table Sponsors. See volunteer and sponsorship opportunities below! |
